Two Retire and Two New Staffers Join Printing and Publications

Two long-time Printing and Publications staffers retired in 2005. Production operator Don Tolbert and graphic designer Judy Ahrenberg had a combined total of 45 years service. During their careers here they were involved with many significant changes in the graphic communications industry that affected the way we create and produce our work. We wish both of them the best of luck. We’ll miss you!

Graphic designer Bob Powell has joined Printing and Publications, coming to us from ITC Creative Services in 2005. Bob has 15 years experience in design in a variety of settings including newspapers and corporate design, as well as a background in fine arts as a sculptor and photographer. Chris Earp, our new production operator, joined the staff early in 2006. Chris is a bindery specialist as well as press operator with 18 years experience in the industry.

Printing and Publications Open House in the News

Printing and Publications held an Open House to celebrate our new facility on June 23 and hosted over 130 people from across campus. Visitors were given tours of the facility in the Campus Services building and received gifts, including a booklet specially designed for the open house and produced using our new Standard Horizon bookletmaker. Guests also had an opportunity to meet representatives and see samples from paper suppliers Athens, Mac, and xpedx and promotional products vendor IPMA Marketplace. Appalachian Food Services provided refreshments.

“Everyone seemed to have a great time,” said Printing and Publications Director Joyce Mahaffey in an article in In-Plant Graphics magazine. “We’ve had many favorable comments from the campus community, as well as several new orders.”
